Hello, dearest TASPers!
I have come to share with you all a tiny bit of good news. I have just returned from my first Public Forum debate tournament and my partner and I took first place! Now, you may be asking "Josh, what inspired you to do debate?" Well, I'll tell you. Even though it is no Policy or LD debate, Public Forum is the only type of debate offered by my school. Now, after an interesting 6 week experience this summer, I realized what an intense intellectual sport debate was and decided to try it. I'd like to extend my thanks to all of you who helped me with my speed reading skills and also to all of you who showed me what a mysterious, cruel, and strangely addictive world debate was.
Other than that, life trundles on as usual here. The snow has melted, college apps are finished and I am left with a empty spot in my psyche where an enormous worry used to be. What do I fill it with? I feel as if I must learn to be young again. Hmm, perhaps I'll search for God. Or build a treehouse.
So far, so good I guess. Good luck with everything you all do to occupy your nebula-sized minds. If you ever feel like it, drop me a line.

Josh, let's make one thing clear: Public Forum is not real debate. Nonetheless, I applaud your efforts and wish you luck for the rest of the season. I'm not surprised in the least--you're an eloquent speaker with a lot of common sense. You'd probably do as well or better in LD (policy is wierd and freakish).
So I don't have to waste a main page post, I'll add here that I got 14th of 18 teams at the state policy tournament. The only really good thing that came out of qualifying was a video pep rally at my high school. I'll try to find some way to load it online. It was the last tournament of our debate careers, so my partner and I went for some pretty off-the-wall arguments, including a clarity procedural, that ended up losing. Lots of fun.
