By the way
Forgot to mention in a previous post... Derrida is dead. (Insert mourning.) He dies and gets minor mention in the Times, but when Superman dies everyone has to harp about it. Not one person in my physics lab (myself excluded) had heard of the big D. What a cruel world in which we live...

To butcher Derrida's philosophy:
Words cannot express my grief.
Last week in my Lit. class, we had critical theory group presentations. One of the groups undertook explaining deconstruction (using these really terrible examples from Wuthering Heights and little charts and stuff), and I think perhaps the resulting bad vibes reached all the way to Paris, and that this was the beginning of the end for poor Derrida. If only I had stopped them...
(insufficiently somber/sad/reverent, i know; but i liked him)
I wasn't impressed by the whole Times Derrida=universal human values bit, either. Good to see Greg and Masha are on board. I just renewed my copy of Introduction to the Origin of Geometry from the U of MN library today--in Derrida's honor, of course.
