on buying bread

Yesterday, I was entrusted with the duty of guiding Jessica and her posse from Hyde Park to Little Italy to find good bread. I figured, I know how to get there, I went to high school not too far from Little Italy - why plan? Sigh. Before I knew it, I was leading six unsuspecting first-years on a winding journey through the park that lies between Hyde Park and the train we needed to catch. It was a shame to all Chicagoans.

In other news, I finally got a job. After months of rejection, I almost didn't know how to respond when the interviewer said, "I want to hire you right away." I'll be doing some kind of tutoring with kids from surrounding neighborhoods. I've dabbled in a few organizations, hoping to be accepted to what sounds like a pretty exciting community service/leadership training program. I haven't quite figured out how to use what seems like my immense amounts of free time yet. Maybe I should try bonding with Adam Smith...we'll see...

Jessica and bread.

There was that time Jessica was in New York on Easter Sunday, everything was closed and there was nowhere to buy bread, especially good bread. So we ended up inexplicably in a godforsaken part of Brooklyn after riding several random stops on the subway, Jessica's interest in bread expended - and the only things in sight were fried chicken stand after fried chicken stand. But no bread still. That was interesting.
