College Football
My travels of yesterday took me through South Bend, Indiana where I enjoyed the second of two days of College Football Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. Indiana's stereotypical sports: High School basketball, College Football, Professional Auto Racing. I haven't figured out the salient conclusion, but I thought I'd lay that on the table. I really like how they had the decency to play down the student-athlete oxymoron. Barry Sanders is much less interesting in person (albeit, over a small crowd from 20 meters away). Theisman (forgive spelling), a legenday college QB was also there. The trumped-up sentimentality and facade of "pure athleticism" (i.e. noncommercial, for love of game, etc.) gave the place a disquieting musk. Greg, who by now is moving into his new domicile, must be rolling in his spiderman bed sheets.
My next post will be from the comfort of my home town, if not home.
Adieu, I miss you all,
Michael
P.s. Their wall of notables ("distinguished supporters of college football and student athleticism, or something like that) read like a GOP celebrity roster: Jack Kemp, George H W Bush, Tommie Franks, Norman Schwartzkopf, Gerald Ford, George Steinbrenner, Richard Nixon, Herbert Hoover, Ronald Reagan... (I'm doing this from memory. The full list is probably online somewhere.)
