Welcome to the Wild West

So I was watching the evening news a little earlier, and there was this rather alarming segment about a new Florida “force with force” law that, basically, allows people to shoot each other on the street if they want to. (This was the NRA’s top lobbying effort this year, according to the Times.) If person A attacks person B on the street - say, with a punch in the arm - and person B somehow feels an imminent threat to his life, then B has a right to kill A. Innocence is presumed (of course), and this basically sets a much lower bar for homicide – after all, the dead guy can’t testify that he did nothing wrong.

Floridians always had this right of self-defense in their own homes, but now this means that (in a worse-case scenario) they can shoot each other in the street as well almost with impunity before the law.

Note to self: bring Kevlar vest on next trip to Florida (if ever). If this law spreads, I'm scared...
